Since we cannot connect our UVMs to our local domain or install an agent without affecting support, the physical UVMs need to be able to provide a self backup capability.
When ever we apply a SUPI or application upgrade, there is no way to backout the change nor go back to a restore point of the OS image.
Assuming the UVM50 has an available slot. A self-contained backup drive which can take a snapshot of the OS drive would at least provide a restore point for a quick service restore in the event of a catastrophic issue on the build.
This would be significantly faster than rebuilding from the factory reset image which would require days or weeks or more to restore the host to the current SUPI version, Application version and any other manually applied fixes.
Or if an external supported device is possible where no internal slots exist.
